Day Eight Death Valley - Yosemite National Park

Click for Death Valley, California Forecast

Sunrise over the dunes Again this is a long haul with an incredible difference in height. Being too hot to sleep, we left early and watched the incredible sunrise from the sand dunes near Stovepipe Wells.

We left Death Valley on the 190 over the Townes Pass and down into Owens Valley. Owens Valley runs along the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada and is in total contrast to the dry, hot valley we had left only hours earlier behind. Mount Whitney the highest mountain in the United States (excluding Alaska) dominates the skyline. Mono Lake

Mono Lake is a lake where water runs in but not out. Tufa columns rise up from it's incredibly blue water.

We entered Yosemite National Park via the Tioga Pass. Lake TenayaIn Yosemite Valley, I saw my first Coyote! Although the falls were almost non-existent, the park is beautiful in September - would love to see it in the Spring though!

cover All Roads Lead to Yosemite: Where to Stay and Play in and near the park. Excellent guide for this Californian National Park and its surrounds.

My Places of interest: Tuolumne Meadows, Yosemite Valley, Glacier Point .
