Los Angeles - Palm Springs
As we were going to be back in Los Angeles later, we decided to hit the road for Palm Springs early in the morning. 
This meant missing the rush hour traffic on the freeways and by 10 o'clock in the morning we were turning off State Route 111 onto the 243 to Idyllwild.
This road leads through the Mt. San Jacinto State Park. The spectacular 74 through the San Bernadino National Forest leads around and down to Palm Desert. Once on the valley floor, we followed the Highway 311 through Rancho Mirage, Cathedral City to Palm Springs
