This was a long day, driving through the Nevada heat.
Our first stop was Zabriskies Point in Death Valley National Park
as the road to Dantes View was washed out due to flash floods. The temperature at Furnace Creek was 99°F in the shade. We detoured to Badwater and then carried on towards the sand dunes.
The greener Owens Valley was also cooler than the drive through Death Valley. We were booked into a motel in June Lake and arrived late that evening. The guy at the desk had been worried that something had happened to us but when we explained that had come the whole way from Vegas, he just grinned.
