Day Eleven Pagosa Springs - Durango

Click for Pagosa Springs, Colorado Forecast

Pagosa SpringsThe day started off in Pagosa Springs with blue skies but it was cold. Cliff Palace By the time we got to our destination it was snowing and dull. Never mind, we were in Mesa Verde National Park.

Mesa Verde National Park is also a World Heritage Site and the only National Park designated to archeological history. First we visited the center and bought tickets for the Mesa VerdeCliff Palace tour. Cliff Palace is built into the cliff wall and the tour involves descending about 100 feet on narrow, steep trails. But the hike is worth every cent. The history of the place overwhelms you.

We spent the day visiting the various cliff dwellings and immersing ourselves in the history of the Anasazi. In the evening we drove back to Durango - a boomtown based on winter sports.
